I never thought about this, but I get it. As a fat person, I am particularly paranoid about being clean in public, and I have a near-meltdown if I spill even a crumb on myself. I feel like I would be subject to public ridicule in a way that thin people wouldn’t if I have food on me. After reading this, I now realize that my feeling of being held to more scrutiny than others is the same for other marginalized people, and I can see how it would be especially true for people of color.
